Percussion

Picture
The percussion section is made up of many different kinds of instruments!  In their first year, 5th grade students will focus on learning snare drum and xylophone but will experience other percussion instruments as well.  Students can begin learning the drum set as 6th graders in the Junior High jazz band next year, and the skills they learn this year will set them up for great success on that popular instrument!  Percussionists need a great sense of beat and rhythm, and it is helpful (although definitely not required) if they have played piano before too.  If you like being on your feet and moving around then percussion could be a great choice for you!
